Thank you, that's what I got out of it when I first heard it and that's why I love it so, so much.. I hate that when I tell people I'm agnostic or not religious they assume I have no morals and aren't capable of doing good things in this world. This song makes me feel oh so good...

| Can you guys imagine 20 years from now taking some college course like "An Analysis of Against Me! Lyrics"
I would love to be the professor of that class, and get the different viewpoints on all the different interpretations of the lyrics!

| I doubt that it is that far off from reality. I know that a few schools offer classes on The Beatles, Nirvana and even Sublime!
AM! has definetly got to be counted as one of the most influential and important bands of the current punk/rock/folk/protest area.
For years I have been a punk fan (I bought my first punk CD back in '94) and I remember when for a long time people assumed that that meant I listened to NFG, Good Charlotte or any other pop-crap that had a singer with tattoos. Now, it is good that people are realizing that those bands are not punk and a large part of that is due to AM!
(sorry, even I realize this post is lame, but it is late at night, I will try to be more articulate later)

This isn't happening;
not sure about that one either
The sky is really falling,
ozone layer deteriorating.
The paint's all made of lead,
products that hurt the environment
There's asbestos in the walls, Hell's coming to rip off the doors To your priveleged heaven.
the church itself is deteriorating, and there is nothing your god can do to stop it. I think you may have grouped the lyrics incorrectly, I think The sky is really falling, the paints all made of lead. Theres asbestos in the walls. All go together. All of these lines are showing things that the parents did to "protect" their children that have really hurt them... The sky is really falling, is obviously a reference to Chicken Little, but also to parents never telling their kids bad news or atleast always sugar coating it. I think Tom is trying to say we should not raise our kids to think that everything is perfect only to have them shocked later when they do realize that things are wrong. The paints all made of lead, theres asbestos in the walls, shows again how what parents have done to protect or shelter there kids is actually hurting them. I think Tom is saying that sometimes we go to such lengths to protect our children that we are actually hurting them For the record, this is by far my favorite AM! song, I could talk about this song for days!

| does anyone know anything about Tom\'s brother? I always thought it was interesting that in the beginning of the CORE song (mentioned above) he says \"raised me and my brother..\" but never really says anything else about him....i mean he also doesnt really talk about his family that much at all...although in one of the live bootlegs he talks about living with his dad in Missouri (?) during the summers.

| I remember reading an interview in some older magazine where Tom described his brother, who is younger than him, as being "enormous and really into Tupac." Haha. I have a feeling they're opposites. Also, Tom has said that his dad is a strict military man and he said something about being afraid to cuss in front of his father, and that his dad views him as still being in middle school. Tom's got an interesting family. |

| I also believe it's about Tom realizing that Catholicism wasn't making sense and that he didn't need a god to be a good person. | |
