| I like this review: taken from aversion.com Civil War
It's sometimes hard to remember the halcyon days when you could tell someone you liked punk rock without qualifying it, without making exceptions to the frighteningly uninteresting mob of teenage pop-punk bands or without feeling sheepish about the admission. Those days are back, at least for the duration of Dillinger Four's latest.
Civil War, the Minneapolis band's first studio album in six years, is an old-fashioned punk album you can be proud to like. Armed with songs that confrontationally take on everything from ego-tripping rock-star punks ("The Art of Whore") and celebrity-worship culture ("Parishiltonisametaphor") to atheist tracks ("The Classical Arrangement") and personal integrity ("A Jingle for the Product"), D4 isn't taking its role in the culture wars lightly. This is punk rock with intelligence, with conscience, with vision. Most importantly, it's punk rock with soul.
Even though Civil War is the Four's most pop and accessible album, it's still a long way from the sweet-tooth gunk passed off as today's punk rock. It's still undeniably a product of Dillinger Four, too. Guitars bite and rabbit-punch as much as they spin hooks, as the band dials in guitar tones that bristle like a wire brush on your nethers.
As expected, it's all mid-'90s pop punk meets underground gristle with Dillinger Four. "Minimum Wage is a Gateway Drug" and "A Pyre Laid for Image and Frame" pound forward on breakneck tempos as a pair of guitars sizzles through three-chord punk rock. "The Classical Arrangement" slows things down considerably; while you won't be tempted to whip out a lighter power-ballad style, it's a marked downshift from the act's manic tempos. "Fruity Pebbles" discards the melodies as D4's guitars grind against each other. Instead of melody, it invokes the seething power of Avail.
If you've ever felt a little silly to admit you're above the age of 18 or 20 and still interested in what the punk underground has to say -- at least from time to time -- Dillinger Four is there to reaffirm your faith in the underground. Civil War won't erase whatever stupid band is the punk-rock flavor of the month, but it'll at least let you know your faith is rewarded every now and again.

| 24Sep, 2009 Dillinger Four played SF last night and Floyd received this text from Paddy this morning: “Did I get beat up or something? My nose is all bloody, my tooth is half gone, and I woke up with an entire large pizza” Also, in case you missed it, Paddy shaved his balls onstage, with clippers! | |

They did Doublewhiskeycokenoice. It's an OK cover, real Leatherface-ish, but they left the Otis Redding bit out.

| Yeah, but they left the bit that Erik Funk normally sings after the Otis Redding bit out too. God save Otis Redding because I know he's never gone As sick falls from this mouth hear me sing it wrong Is it "cigarettes and coffee" now or Dreams to be Remembered I'll leave regrets for dead and sing alongThat part. - Spoiler:
