| I know we seem to have quite the impoverished college student crowd in here, or have recently graduated from that interesting time in the limbo between being a teenager and an adult. That said, where do you all go/have gone? Course of study? But most importantly, why are you there?
I'm at UW-Madison, currently undeclared, but I have a fascination for the Spanish language and cultural studies (of all kinds) including history. I'm an 18 year old first year with sophmore standing, thank you AP classes. Now I"m taking a year or so off because I'm tired of school and ready to do ridiculous things more often without worrying about coursework. I went to school because I was a good student (3.9 GPA) in high school and this was the next step in my education.... but I had no idea what to study.

| I go to a community college for a couple of reasons, mainly cost and not wanting to leave home just yet--I was seventeen when I started here and I really didn't feel like I was ready to move away yet because I have the mental maturity of a 12 year old. I guess that's the same for a lot of college students but...whatever. I'm going to spend one more semester here and then try to transfer to the Art Institute of New England for a graphic design major.
Actually tomorrow is my last final, then I'm done until late August. Woooo.

| I am in the army and having been going to school for quite awhile now... it sure is tough to work and get my degree at the same time, and I do have some advice for you guys:
1) In general, your degree does not force you into a specific job. Most jobs only require a degree, not a degree in a certain field.
2) The exception to rule number one is when you get such a wazoo degree (ie; underwater basket weaving) that you are only good in one field
3) You are at school to get a degree, not to party. Ever notice how all of the people that did not go to college out of high school have no trouble in classes when they finally do go? it is because they don't feel the need to party, most classes are actually pretty easy if you do the reading.
4) Do not be in a hurry to grow up. You can rush through everything and get your BS in 2 years, but that does not make you a grown up yet, so take your time, this is the last real chance you get to screw up, once your an adult, you screw up, it follows you.
5) Do your best. | |

| I go to a Community College because at the time I didn't know what I wanted to do. I graduate this fall, YAY. Then I'm going down to Musician's Institute to study Music Business, THEN transfering to a University somewhere in the LA area to study either Business/Communication something like that. I have to get an internship so I'll definitely be emailing record labels and such. My aunt works for Warner Brothers, so maybe she could hook me up. Sometimes I ask myself what the hell I'm thinking, but most of the time I'm pretty excited for the future. | |

| The cost of college is ridiculous. I honestly don't know how people can go to a 4 year right out of high school. I guess a lot of people just go into debt. It's sad that we have to pay so much, people wonder why the average intelligence is decreasing ..no one can fucking afford school. | |

| I did two years of English Literature and Philosophy (it sounds impressive, but the second major was an accident, it turns out to get a philosophy major you just have to take 2 courses in the department, and the rest are your liberal arts crap courses) at the University of South Florida.
I only did two years, because I dropped out. I couldn't take it.
I went there because I genuinely love to learn new things, and I was considering pursuing as much education as possible, and trying to be one of those "professional students" that you hear about.
I dropped out because I genuinely love to learn, and school was making me stupid. I spent more time trying to figure out what my professors (well, teacher's aides) wanted to hear than I actually spent learning anything about anything. University is a fucking joke unless you are going for something practical, like learning to fly or fix a car or build lasers or something.
I'm considering going back into a scientific field, but I doubt I ever will. I've heard science is even worse than the humanities.

| I go to Tiffin University and I'm majoring in Homeland Security/Terrorism with a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. After school I hope to work as an Intelligence Analyst.
I chose Tiffin because I have professors who are ex-FBI, CIA, US Marshal, so I get to hear what it is really like to work in the field of national security. Also I received and won enough scholarships that I only pay a little over $1200 a year.
