We can talk semantics and I'm not going to put words in anyone's mouths, but you're rationalizing what he said. If you eat, sleep, breathe Against Me, then I'd imagine you respect them, at least to some degree, as individuals. There's nothing harmful about what he's doing and it's not going to affect that poster or any of AM!'s fans. It's physiologically who Tom Gabel is. It is surprising no doubt, but that poster said "Being transgender is fucking weird," not "this news is weird/shocking" or whatever. If it just comes down to a flub of language, then fine, but it was a bullshit comment as is.

I'm disappointed in how some of you are reacting. The gender binary is a social construct, and everyone should be supportive of Tom's decision.

gender isn't binary, but sex is. I don't think anyone has reacted truly negatively.

The cool thing about music is that what once was at one time will always be. Records are like a round, flat time capsule. And no matter what happens, you can always go back and listen and be taken back to that part of your life that made it so important to you.

gender is socially constructed. sex is biologically.

Chason and Hyperballad, we don't need you to be the forum police. What that kid said was insensitive, but they clearly are unfamiliar with transgender issues and we are all going to have to soak this in and learn. 99.9% of us have been respectful and supportive, so simmer down.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, can we focus on the fact that oldgospelchoir fucking leaked this article before it was due to come out? Did you stop to think that maybe Laura and her family weren't ready for this to be public yet?

Wow. Good for Tom/Laura. I don't see why it really matters. This has no bearing on his ability to make great music, and that's all I care about.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to 'leak" it. it was already posted on the internet and all I did was post it on here from another site.

also if you subscribe to Rolling Stone magazine then you should have gotten the new issue yesterday or today...so I don't see how I have 'leaked" when it was sent to the public already.

It comes out Friday, apparently. Alright, someone from their camp was asking how the article got out when it wasn't supposed to be, heard it was leaked. If it's online already, then my bad.

I got my issue today, and came here in hopes of finding more info, but I guess it's news to pretty much everyone.

Like I said, I didn't leak the article. it was on another site and I brought it to the forum's attention

also if RS didn't want it out before friday then they shouldn't have mailed out issues early.

So is everyone else obsessively watching Twitter replies to @tommygabel? I'm feeling protective I guess, and I was worried that there would be mean responses. But everyone is being so supportive, it's rad. Even on absolute punk.net people are mostly being cool.

I'm just surprised at how it all exploded! I mean, after reading the article (around 4 mountain time) I couldn't find anything on the internet about it. Suddenly "Tom Gable" is a trending topic on twitter, the article has been posted to Reddit a good 15 times or so, all in a matter of minutes! I've been watching the web like a hawk!

Whats funny was the other day I was gonna post a thread asking if anyone knew if Tom had gender issues, but never did.

I remembered certain lyrics especially in the new song that I thought might have hinted at it, but still I was shocked to read this.

It took me awhile to take it in, but as of right now I think I just respect him (and Heather) more. Its weird, I'm not homophobic really, but never really looked up to gay people or was friends with anyone like that, maybe this will change that for me. That could be a good thing

I'm shaking. Has this been completely ruled out as being some kind of joke? I don't know what's going on. I don't know what to say.
