The song is called "Dead Friend", it's not plural. And the missing lyric in the second verse is "John Paul Allison, the -something- boy pope". This song is about Pope. His real name was John Paul Allison.

I find the lyrics kinda clunky and little weird.

It's definitely like Shame.
"She sleeps with your ghost at night in bed" hits home hard.
Also, I think it's "fall in love with the first boy she kissed, in a casket" or something along that thought.

I thought of Because of the Shame as soon as I heard it.
Lyrics are a bit clunky, but I think they'll improve. It's the first time they played it. Once they get the feel for it, I think it'll get much better. I still like it.

I feel the repetition of "god damn" is just annoying. We know he can write better than that.

No way, dude. It's totally visceral. I don't know how much you know about the backstory behind the song, but Pope hasn't been dead very long. That's just pure raw emotion. I think "Goddamnit" is the perfect word, actually.

Im fully aware of the backstory. I get the emotion invested in what he's saying. I just feel like " god dammit" only needs to be said once. It just doesn't seem to flow for me.

I kind of like the god damn it.
Also, I do think the lyrics are sort of clunky, but the lyrics for Because of the Shame were too, and I kind of thought that was part of the charm of the song. The fact that they're not all perfect and rhyme-y kind of communicates the emotion of the song in a more intense-ish way.

Pope was AM!'s lighting technician I believe. He was the guy who fell from 20ft while setting up and busted up his leg. Tom has mentioned him a couple of times in interviews. He died later on but I don't think anybody really knows the circumstances.

I'm REALLY liking Dead Friends now. I really just cringe when bands say "godammit" I don't identify as a strong christian but it usually really bothers me to hear it. Am I weird?

I like the God Damn It part, personally. I've lost three close friends in my young age, and a lot of times thinking about them, the only words I could say is "God damn it, I miss you."
Some times it's just like.. everything fucking sucks and you're just sitting there thinking about the people you've lost and you blame God, or you hate God, or you disbelieve in a God, but it always turns around to God damn it, I miss this person. I'm not going to see this person anymore. I think it really captures the emotion Tom is actually feeling. That's just my thought though. I can relate to it, and I can't think of anything else that could fit any better than those words.

I didn't mean to right the goddammit part
I meant just when he says god damn
it always really bothers me
I never say it.

I'm in the same boat. I may swear and curse, but I steer clear of using Goddamn or Oh my God. I just can't do it.
Also, this song needs work. Lots of it. With Russian Spies and Black Me Out, this song and Osama have a LOT of catching up to do if they're going to be anywhere near as good.

I think Dead Friend is better than both Black Me Out and Osama at this point.
I tried the lyrics...
Needn't worry about tomorrow anymore, because you're dead. Does anything still echo? Is there any trace left? I know she still remembers, she sleeps with your picture by her bed. They shaved your face and they washed your hair clean, You were wearing the jacket that I met you in.
How could I not have guessed? She would fall in love with the first boy she kissed in a casket (x3) God damn it. God damn, I miss my dead friend. I miss my dead friend.
We buried your body into the heart of a hole in ground. John Paul Allison, the youthy boy Pope. She waits for you to haunt her, She sleeps with your ghost at night in bed. When you died, you were only twenty-six, The most real person that I've ever met.
How could I not have guessed? She would fall in love with the first boy she kissed in a casket (x3) God damn it. God damn, I miss my dead friend. I miss my dead friend.
Your cold dead hands, your cold dead lips, Your cold dead heart, your cold dead kiss. Your cold dead hands, your cold dead lips, Your cold dead heart, your cold dead kiss.
How could I not have guessed? How could I not have guessed? She would fall in love with the first boy she kissed in a casket (x3) God damn it. God damn, I miss my dead friend.

I love this song too, I love how its full of emotion and anger at his friends being taken away from him. Also, I take it when he is talking about 'she' he means Heather?
