I think that's the great thing about music and such... you can think whatever the fuck ya want. If it makes sense and is meaningful to you, then who the fuck should have a say otherwise? Though... this is pretty straight forward, but again, interpretation is in the eye of the beholder.

I think it's about just leaving your old life in favor of a new one, hence the line "How good it felt to killt he memory of nights spent holding the shirt for the smell, I heard you used o cry when you made love to him, but this band will play on..." kind of leaving the desperation of trying to belong to someone and something and just be yourself (This band will play on, because all we can do is what we've always done)

I love this song. And I agree, I think its good when you can interpret songs in your own way as it makes them more meaningful but for me this song is so energetic and fun and I think its pretty clever Mary turns out to be the Virgin Mary. Would love to see it live as everyone would be going mad especially at the chorus.
