I guess I just find it hard to care when it's obvious, the last comment about the lipstick and the short skirts gets to me but the rest is definitely like eh. I'm not even surprised about the short skirts comment, and to be honest that is pretty much where lip stick started, isn't it?

When you think about how children are treated, like when a little boy wants to play dress up or dolls or anything that is typically considered a girl thing a lot of parents freak out ( read fathers) but when a girl wants to do boy things it's much more acceptable. Nobody freaks out because a girl wants to play with cars or bugs, or anything that is stereotypically figured as a boy thing.

I mean, any insult that includes 'Like a girl' is as immature as it gets. It's an insult that requires no thought because growing up if you're a boy (or tomboy) you've either used it or been subject to it countless times.

Its true. These days I think men tend to catch a lot more flack for being feminine than women do for being masculine. I grew up hanging out with boys all the time and playing sports and shit, and no one said much about it, but if a little boy does the opposite of that it raises a lot of eyebrows.

I wonder how parents feel if they're son plays with a lot of girls.

I mean, I was like you and I don't remember any of the parents finding it odd, there was only the one of me most of the time though, would it have been different if there were more girls, or was it just the fact that they knew we played basketball/games and were overall being violent and I wasn't their child?


I think it all really goes back to the definition of feminine looking a lot like weakness. Most things that are considered masculine also show some sort of strength. would you want to raise whiny, little babies who wouldn't be able to grow up and take care of themselves? (but this is okay for girls because they can always get married)

Well, that, and because women have been fighting for decades to prove that lady-like doesn't necessarily mean what convention says it means, while very few have pushed for the same for men.

Oh, definitely, and again if they were fighting to change that, they'd be viewed as weak.

I'm with both of you, both gender's have their inequalities, and both perfect forms of femininity and masculinity are impossible and actually detrimental.

But how do you fight against something when the whole population is struggling for it, (business masculinity, which is just masculinity minus the belching)

I sell electronics at a retail store and myself and other female co-workers have seriously had customers ask if they could talk to a dude about televisions or computers. I never had this problem when I worked in my hometown, which is pretty urban. Once I started working in this super wealthy area though I realized that most rich white people over the age of 40 are assholes. My store has 100+ employees and only 19 women work there. I guess women aren't expected to know shit about electronics in 2010.
