of course they could. why not? In the end lucus has no say in it. Look at the recent Batman movies or even Star Trek. I could see it being the start of a whole new story. (which would be better) why would they pigeon hold themselves in someone else's idea?
If they do that it'd be a new Episode 1, not 7.

7? Realistically they can do what ever they want. Just sayin'... if your expecting familiar characters you may be disappointed..... some guy is writing the screenplay for the next movie so its not going to be based on lucus vision.

but do you really think Disney wont ask Lucas about his creative dreams and property and ideas and just bullshit like that....i think so. They arent gonna relaunch the series they are just going to expand the series .

I'm sure they'll ask him about ideas, but i don't see it being based on whatever scripts might be in his desk. I'm sure after the last trilogy Disney is going to be a bit careful about his input.

I doubt they'll use any of George Lucas ideas. It'll all be original and Disney. Hopefully more full-frontal nudity and cow bell.

Disney can't do anything worse to Star Wars than what George Lucas already did. I am all for the new Disney movie. They were responsible for Avengers after all and that movie was fun as hell!

Don't he dare defecting to Star Wars! Yes, this is a threat!
This really takes the fun out of the upcoming Star Trek movie. It's like your girlfriend is abandoning you for a better looking jerk.

LOL
Actually, as a Star Trek fan, I gotta say I think he's better suited for making Star Wars movies anyway.
completely agree. although ST was a good movie it wasn't a trek movie. But now ST is back in the public consciousness and i believe its only a matter of time before a new series starts. Hopefully it'll be grim, in the vein of Battlestar
