I Hate The Weekend

God, I hate Friday/Saturday nights. Everyone is going out to the bars all at once, and every single crime in this city is commited at last call. And Edmonton is actually the WORST city in Canada, in terms of crime. So that's pretty bad. Toronto and Vancouver are larger by far, but Edmonton has more crime. And it all happens at 2:30 AM on Friday or Saturday night, on either Jasper or Whyte avenues.

It's so amazingly sad.

The city I live in is becoming notorious for crime as well. Except it's pretty much all gang-related, so it's a bunch of different crimes that happen at different times throughout the day. There have been three shootings in the last week in my town, the last one happened at a local park. They tend to happen in the evening time, actually. I'm lucky enough that I've only had my car broken into, and my mom's purse was stolen. After living here for ten years, I have very little hope left for this town. The mayor's who are elected always promise to end the gang violence, but it never happens. I can't wait to leave!

Shit, here in Edmonton just yesterday a 70 year old man was killed (a) in broad daylight, (b) in front of his wife, (c) as they were walking out of a restaurant they went to for their 39th anniversary. I'm not for the death penalty at all, but I hope the motherfucker who did that gets all sorts of horrible things visited upon him.

(They caught him. The police chief officially went nuts and sent the entire force out looking for the guy, the city was crawling with cops all day.)

(But seriously - some old white people get knifed and the cops are all over it, but anyone else is the victim of a crime, it's "sorry"? Fuck that. There was a native woman the other day whose child got shot. What happened with that? Not much. Because she's not white, I bet.)

Damn, that's fucking horrible! Pretty much every person here who ends up a victim of homicide is someone who is in a gang or affiliated with some type of gang member.

Most people around here who get stabbed or shot are in a gang, or are at least dumbasses, so it's never much of a tragedy. Though that was pretty awful.

I love the weekend, it means I have a legitimate excuse to do nothing.

Gangs are fucking crawling all over Albuquerque. The worst part is that all the kids, like little fucking kids that should still be wishing the moon was made of cheese, are getting into them. there's no fucking age limit.

Fuck, it's the same story here. Or anywhere. I don't know what it is that makes little kids think gangs have anything to offer, but whatever it is, that needs to stop right now.

There was something in the paper about a First Nations reserve that's basically been a war zone for the past four years in this province. Somehow they have up to 14 gangs all fighting each other. Fucking idiots.
