The Lawrence Arms

I'm suprised there isn't a thread already about them!

They are still without a doubt my favourite band ever. Recently my music taste has been evolving, but the Larry Arms will always remain at the top stop. They were the first band I ever saw live, supporting Rise Against and Mad Caddies about 5 years ago.

I've really been getting into them in the past couple weeks.

ive been trying to get into them...just hasnt really happened....am I missing something?? is there track/album that i definitely should be listening to?

I only have Apathy and Exhaustion, and Cocktails & Dreams. I enjoy them both though I've been meaning to buy some more CDs of theirs.

I would say just listen to all of their albums because they are all good in different ways.

Faintly Falling Ashes has always been one of my favorite songs of theirs.

Brendan and Chris are 2 seriously amazing songwriters. Just listen to this part of Brickwall Views:

the lawrence arms have always been at the top of favorites. I think it was Cocktails and Dreams that made me think, "wow."
And minty, chris is a very good songwriter, especially the songs he wrote for sundowner.

I can't tell whose songwriting I prefer, Brendan has some fantastic lines like:

"Drink and the funeral, piss on the corpse. Yell at the sun 'till your voice is all hoax. I'm gone, this is goodbye."

they do make a pretty good team. I'm assuming chris wrote 100 Resolutions, since he recorded it for Sundowner. This also happens to be one of my favorite LA songs

That's amazing! I seen him in Aberdeen and Edinburgh with Sye (ClockworkRobot) and they stayed at her house. Between the 2 shows he played Brickwall Views, Boatless Booze Cruise, Intransit, Fireflies, One Hundred Resolutions and Faintly Falling Ashes, as well as a bumload of Sundowner and both nights he got on stage to play Challenging Me with Mike Park. I've been wanting to get the timer tattooed on my back for a while, I'm gonna start ebaying CDs I never listen to anymore to start a tattoo fund because I've been itching to get it done.

Ha! I love that he played Chapter 13. My friends requested it in Milwuakee at the Lawrence Arms show and Brendan gave them dirty looks.

Chris only played it because people bribed him with beer...and even then, he forgot the words to the second verse. Someone actually went on the internet on their mobile phone, found the lyrics, and held them up for him!

After the gig, he told me that he thought it was hilarious. He also told me it was the first time he had played Fireflies in a few years.

Yeah we got those songs, on the first night Chris asked if there was anything anyone wanted to heard and I yelled FAINTLYFALLINGASHES to beat the crowd despite only standing like 2 feet in front of him or something hahah. They were great, though saying that I would have loved to have seen Chapter 13, that song slays.

Something about it sends shivers down my spine. But I kinda prefer hearing that line from Chuck Ragan. At least I think it's Chuck. Sometimes Chuck and Chris sound really similar.

I figured you loved that line. I love that song so much, it hurts a little. You know how sometimes, a song feels like the singer is reading your mind? I get that a LOT when I listen to TLA.

yeah we got him to play faintly falling ashes last time he was here. also criminal. he also played criminal with the larry arms in 06 first time i saw them with neil on electric guitar
