| Another new song! Last night Tom sent us one called 'Graceful Concession' which he wrote while recording for New Wave and recorded it last week in Gainesville. Tell me if you have any problems downloading it!

| Incredible! This song is so perfect that I could cry. It's so sad and beautiful. I think it's one of the most honest songs Tom has ever written, but the way he's singing about the person is exactly how I feel about him. Ahh, I love you Mr. Gabel. |

| Lex you're honestly my hero right now.
I'm desperate to know who this is about though! I keep thinking his wife, but it seems like a favorite musician or close friend (Possibly bandmate...?) that seems to...fit. I'm not sure.
I'm not entirely sure if I Love it yet though. I just need to break it in a little I think.

| ...and I did, you can see how it's a reflection of some of the bands they've been touring with lately, like I can totally hear Two Gallants influence and that's amazing because it's like my two favorite bands collide. | |

I'm intensely curious to hear this as a full band arrangement.

| it sounds too much like an appology and it sort of makes me feel like tom didnt write all the songs saying something like " if only i could be as genious as you" and "i took your songs and passed them of as my own"
it sounds too new wave, not saying i hate new wave but it almost seems to go against what they wrote origginally and how it was never about the money. ughhh i dont hate new wave so dont lable me like that its just i dont see how these songs are really better than the older stuff. and i really just wanna hear some good old tom gabel on acoustic. i tend to rabble on. |

I mean, we all have people we look up to and want to be like, or better than, in what we want to do with our lives. It's not terribly unusual to feel the things this song talks about. I think it's actually pretty weird to hear a band come out and admit it, since people get up on stage and want to be gods, you know? - an Eternal Cowboy wrote:

I think that it sounds like Tom Gabel is almost 30, and is learning to express himself a lot better than he did when he was 17. I keep telling my wife that I really, really, really want to hear Against Me!'s tenth album. They all have a lot of potential to grow as song writers and musicians. As far as I know, Tom Gabel is in a small minority of musicians around that admit to wanting to be "more serious about songwriting". I think that's astounding. I don't really see New Wave as being about money. But I suppose that making a living off of what you do can affect how you approach what you do. I don't really see that as a negative at all, but there are some good arguments that point to "professional musicians" losing their skill at a certain point. I mean.....how many people write songs about their experiences, get famous with those songs, then use the fame and fortune to get away from those experiences? How do they write more good songs? That's not to say that Tom Gabel is doing that, he hasn't moved into a mansion in LA and I don't imagine he will, but you have to write what you know, and he knows different these days. Again, it's not good or bad, it's just.....different. That's why I have such a hard time comparing Against Me!'s old stuff with their new.

| There's more than enough old AM! stuff to listen to anyway.
Anyway, don't worry about people labelling you for liking New Wave, we're pretty cool about it here since not bothering to discuss the whole "urgh they're sellouts" argument (which is soooo tired as arguments go) is pretty much the foundation of this forum.
I, for one, love New Wave.

| i didnt say you would labele for liking new wave, becuase in all honesty i dont really like or hate it. i said not to lable me as a hater of it, becuase as arrlo said when you write songs on past experiences and get famous from them then yeah you have to right songs about bening famous because that becomes your past. |

| Don't be that unfair, Tom wrote that song when he was 20 years old and it was recorded when he was 21, this song shows more talent lyrically anyway. | |
