The Wonder Years

I remember when they put out their first couple 7 inches. I thought they were pretty decent pop punk, but nothing special considering every pop punk band that was(and is) putting out new stuff seems to focus heavily on synth. I thought the lyrics were at least funny and clever.

Then the upsides came out and I thought "..shit..there might be some actual emotion behind this band..not just catchy shit with nasily vocals" I really dig how awkward and out of place the singer feels in his life. I've read interviews with the band and they discuss why they starting using the phrase "I'm not sad anymore" and its supposed to be a battle cry for people who have got dealt a shit hand but wont stop fighting to fix it.

I really loved their newest record, its a great follow up and its just one of those records that is great for people who arent happy with the place they are in their life. If you havent checked them out, I strongly suggest it.. Im not really into Allen Ginsberg but the record has a lot of references to his work (including the title itself)

I do like the new record

I fucking love Allen Ginsberg. He's one of my heroes. Now, it'd be easy to be a douche about a pop-punk band using Ginsberg references, but it's actually one of the reasons I started to listen to the new record when my friend told me about the Howl references. At first, I wasn't expecting much from them, but it satisfies when I'm in a pop-punk mood.
