Japan disaster.

Big fucking earthquake. Big fucking Tsunami. Anyone have any more information?

Earthquake was caused by the subduction zone that Japan is on. The tsunami travelled as far as 6km from the shore. I don't know much else.

Lots of people died, lots of villages near the Japanese city of Sendai are gone. Sendai itself is largely destroyed and they have no idea how many of the 1 million people of that city have survived. A large passenger train is missing and so is a boat with 100 people on board of it. There are about 50 fires spreading in Japan and there was one in a nuclear power plant, but they say that's taken care of.

And there is a problem with the nuclear power plant in Fukushima. The power went out so the cooling doesn't work anymore. It's leaking some radio active stuff and 3000+ people around it have been evacuated.

The aftershocks created mini tsunamis on the west coast of the United States...not dangerous tho.

I thought I read that the tsunami washed the emergency power house away.

10000 people are said to have been killed. they were saying 100 or so in the first few hours.

people always bitch about MD weather but then theres always some catastrophe somewhere in the world, and still people bitch about the rain or cold or some stupid shit.

Was I the only one who found it a little funny watching the videos and half the people in the offices were still just going about their day?

The office workers probably thought it was just a standard Godzilla drill.

Western Canada is freaking out thinking the radiation is going to blow over the ocean and affect everyone over here. Masks and radiation detectors are flying off the shelves along with pills and medicines that reduce the chance of getting certain cancers.

(I'm from the prairies though, so nobody is panicking here. We just get all the news reports of them goin' nuts)
