| Pretty obvious the meaning of the song but I had 2 comments that I was wondering about:
1) Is the line "We're only in it for the money" a possible reference to the Mothers of Invention album of the same name?
2) Why is Pears and not Peers? Is that just a little joke? | |

I'm guessing he means food, as in money? Like you sell out to become just like everyone else in music, and you get money. | |

| So, has anybody ever heard the "Hot Damn" version of this song? I mean the very first few times it was played like (2003/2004?). I read on this forum that the "Hot Damn" version was more similar to "The Shaker" and featured separate parts before the choruses.
It then went on to be called "The Shaker" and then "Mediocrity...". | |
