| This stuff needs to be discussed. This topic will be active for months.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/interactive/2010/nov/28/us-embassy-cables-wikileaks is an interactive thingy that will show all the major stories. http://cablegate.wikileaks.org/ is the official leak page.
I think the most prominent stories so far are those linking Russia's government to organised crime, North Korea's sales of missile components to Iran, Yemen taking blame for US bombings, the US' ordering of the German government to stop investigating CIA kidnappings of German civilians, Kim Jong-il having epilepsy, North Korea recognising homosexuality as a genetic trait and therefore 'pardoning' then, Saudi Arabia asking the US to invade Iran, and so on.
The US and S Korea are currently conducting military tests in the Yellow Sea, apparently just 11km from the North-South border. These leaks, combined with the recent tensions and the shelling of the South Korean Yeonpyeong islands, could mean big shit.
It's gonna be an interesting 2011, to say the least...

| The fact that the US is going out and calling this an 'attack on the world' is just fucking retarded. | |

| It's interesting to watch but the claims of the damage it could cause are a bit outlandish I think. More from me later | |

| Shit is totally legit. Also, China are calling North Korea their spoilt child. I like that. I also read that Seoul and Washington with Beijing's help are going to try and overthrow Pyongyang. That would be good for the people there.
And Ross I think I see it. Only 0.1% of the total files have been released so far and we already have this much info. I can't wait for everything to trickle out.

Yeah, until we see more it is difficult to judge.

| I think a lot of it is just gossip. "Huhuhu, the Dutch Prime Minister looks like Harry Potter, huhuhuhu"-kind of stuff. | |

| The prime minister of England is apparently a lightweight.
Wasn't it America taking the blame for Yemen bombings that we didn't actually do?
I'm more interested in how pissed off the Government is getting and watching the right do the same thing they criticize the left of doing. Calling this terrorism is kind of ridiculous.

I don't know, if I were the government and had to go through a quarter of a million documents to see what's been leaked, I'd be pretty terrified, too. That's a lot of reading.

No, it was Yemen taking the blame for American bombings, apparently at Yemen's request . And Yemen are now denying this, surprise surprise.

| In grade 7, there was this poster of the world flags, and they'd cross out the Y in Yemen and replace it with an S. ...sigh, junior high.
cool facto though, I used to live in Yemen, for about 6 months only though.

A guy got arrested for something similar in 2007 I think, called Bradley Manning. He's the prime suspect. The really sad thing is that he's only 23 and he's facing 50 or more years in prison.

| If Yemen says "We'll continue telling people they're our bombs, not yours", than I can't see if the US asked them to do this or if they wanted it themselves. I've read it was at Yemens request. | |

| In regards to the Private who was arrested in relation to all of this.. In my opinion the most important thing he did was bring to light this massive security flaw. Sure he took them, but maybe someone should have taken steps to make sure this information was not as easily attainable as it was. | |

I agree, but I haven't been keeping up on it other than no one hosting wikileaks. This is what the second time, right?
