Franz Nicolay Joins Against Me! (Sort of)

According to the band's Facebook:

I am actually a bit upset about this. Go figure. I mean it used to be four guys and instruments on stage giving it their all every night. The same way it was in studio. It has a Green Day feel to me, and I'm just hoping this doesn't send them down that road...

I'm guessing he'd do piano for because of the shame?

anytime i talk with someone about the hold steady i feel like i am the only person in the world who does not like them.
something about the guys voice. his talking/singing doesn't really sound that great to me.
he reminds me a lot of duane peters. i actually like the music for the most part, his singing just kills it for me.

They were okay with me for a while but whenever I saw them on The Colbert Report the other day I was like, pffft lame. They were not very good.

I REALLY hope he joins full time as a pianist.

Franz seems like a cool guy who's too involved in shitty projects. The Hold Steady aren't very good. Guignol is, however.

I'm not going to lie, I don't like what I've heard of the live videos. New Wave and a couple others sounded weird on Spin, and the acoustic shows had some cool accordion parts, but other pieces sounded odd. I don't know if I am a fan of this. I don't mind them writing new songs with him....but working him into every old song isn't working for me.

However, they're not out to please me with it, so I guess we're even.

The two shows I saw recently you could barely hear him at all, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

*Edit: When I made that post, I was unaware that he was so high up in the mix on the Spin video. I haven't watched it yet, so I'll soon see what you guys are talking about.

this is kind of surprising to me. the hold steady reminds me of bruce a lot.

have you heard constructive summer? that song is amazing.

You know since then i actually have gotten into The Hold Steady a bit more.
I was able to catch their show at The Beacon Theatre a while back and it was great.
So they have grown on me some. I will check out Constructive Summer.
