The first song I thought of when looking for god in Against Me! (that sounds absurd) was Joy. "I am looking for a faith. My panic is an only reason." I doubt Tom has found a faith, but this song is certainly more panicked.
"What god doesn't give to you, you've got to go and get for yourself." Couldn't he just be saying, "God doesn't give you anything, you've got to get everything for yourself"?
Also, bamboo is some strong shit. Pound for pound its stronger than steel. We could all do with some bamboo bones. "Don't let them break you."

Woah, "Ache With Me" came on right after I posted this and I realized its all about searching for something and never being able to find it.. after searching graveyards, churches and asking preachers (among other locations and professions). I think its much more likely that he's just talking about 'happiness' or some generic life expectancy.. but with religion on the mind the connection is certainly plausible.

actually leading with your chin (or jaw) is the exact opposite of proceeding with caution. It comes from boxing where a fighter heads straight for the opponent with his jaw stuck out. Basically in Tom's case I think it means he's out there on stage throwing caution to the wind and he's not sure if it looks ridiculous or not.
