Bus Crash

Against Me! was involved in a bus while traveling between dates in Denver, Colorado and Salt Lake City, Utah last night.

The band is currently touring with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and Future of the Left. Leo reported in via his website that the members of Against Me! are uninjured but likely delayed, stating:

Hey peeps - according to Against Me, everyone is o.k., but they're not going to be able to make it to the show tonight. Word that I've gotten so far, is that that means the promoter is canceling the whole thing. I'm still actually lying in bed responding to text messages, so I don't have a ton of info, and my brain is moving a little slowly, but I think our plan right now is to go to SLC anyway and see what's up. I will try to update this later in the day, but as it's a 7.5 hour drive from Denver, I might not get a chance. I would suggest checking the venue's website, or calling them:(801) 359-3219, for updates...
Tonight's show in Salt Lake City has been canceled. There is no word yet on if further tour dates will be postponed.

I read that on punknews.org, I saw the title and my heart seriously dropped to my stomach. But then I saw no one was hurt, but still that's horrible. I'm glad they're alright.

Alternative Press has exclusively communicated with the band's tour manager, Jordan Kleeman; according to him: "We're fine, no injuries. Just a big headache to deal with." When asked for details on the incident, Kleeman says, "[We] hit a patch of ice, slid off-road, [the] trailer came off [the] bus and turned over." The band's publicist also has informed AP that "the band's gear was thrown from the trailer all over the highway".

Oh my God, I saw "Bus Crash" as a recent post in the Portal and I almost died. Ugh, I'm so glad that they're okay but I still feel really upset for them..

I'm guessing just the trailer turned over? I hope.

Yeah, I read that. So scary, John from Bayside died because they slid off the road on Halloween night. Ugh, it's so depressing to think about that happening to anyone.

holy shit. that stretch of highway should be rebuilt its not safe at all. its sketchy to begin with and if you add ice... im so glad they are ok though.

Warren called this morning, so I would hear the news directly from him, instead of via online rumour or news report.

At about 6am, Wyoming time, while everyone was safely tucked in their bunks, the bus hit a patch of ice just outside Rawlins, Wyoming and slid - ending up facing the reverse direction in the median.

The trailer, containing all the gear and supplies wobbled and bounced out of control - landing sideways in a snowy ditch. The trailer doors had ripped open, so all around the site of their accident the ground was covered with equipment cases, CDs, boxes of T-shirts, etc.

There were other cars in the area affected by the icy conditions, so Jordan was able to hitch a ride with a nearby tow-truck to make arrangements for hotel rooms and a U-Haul for gathering up all their belongings.

Due to the shake-up they are canceling tonight’s show in Salt Lake City, Utah - and will use this unexpected lay-over to analyze the best way for continuing the tour.

That sucks so bad that their belongings were thrown all over the place, how frustrating. I hope that they can get back on track, I'm glad the tour is almost over for them.

From what I've heard the instruments were all in their protective travel cases, and didn't receive any damage. Maybe once they open the cases we'll hear otherwise - but at first glance it was just bumps along the hard outer shells .. the mess was from cardboard boxes being tossed around and spilling merch.

Plus it was damn cold for Florida boys to be on the edge of a snowy highway picking up gear!

Wow, that's awful. Glad no one was hurt.

My details are sketchy - things were a little bit excited during the phone call. But my understanding is that during the skid the trailer was bumping around, and then broke loose and was banging along the side of the bus while they were spinning around. It seems as though everyone woke to the sound of it thumping against the bus, possible cracking a couple of windows, before it tumbled off into the ditch.

The fact that everyone was stretched out prone in their protected bed cubicles probably kept damage inside to a minimum.

Also, Warren praised their driver for handling the spin professionally - keeping things upright (although backwards) in what could have been a very ugly situation if they had flipped.

Wow. Glad to hear everyone is unhurt. Hail to the Bus Driver!
