Come on, don't be so anti! Let people do what they like to. As long as they have fun and a good life, why bother? I post pictures of things on my facebook profile, utterly pointless. And isn't twitter made for utterly pointless things except when it comes to revolutions and giving a away guest list spots?
It's okay not to use facebook. But it's also okay to use it. No harm done.

You can fine tune your feed so you can only show posts from people that you generally care about. I fine tune mine nearly every time. Pretty much with a three strike rule. You can choose not to see what they post on your News Feed, while still remaining friends so you can skip all that sorts of awkward.

whats the 'subscribe' and 'follow' feature on facebook??

I imagine its for deluded people who think they're important and believe people would want to see what they're are doing without friending them. I say this b/c a number of hot girls I am friends with have it as an option
